Today, Yesterday, the Past and the Future

The title may say a lot. Many people would fit in their whole life story in these confines. As for me, I talk short term. The story is ongoing! The last month has been, as always is and always will be, a circus of random jumping, skipping from one pillar to another, from one post to the other. In of matter of three weeks, I have been living it up in crowded and exuberant London, royal Edinburgh, and the wee green city Glasgow. A good lucky shot at a job opportunity has seen me changing my job from an Inventory Auditor to a Visa Submissions Officer and Operations trainee! Fortunate as it was, I am back to Glasgow. Having got the chance to live in London for a few weeks, I wouldn't advise anyone to go there unless he/she has a job which pays truck loads of dough! All said and done, it was an experience in itself. Everyone going about their day with the look of absolute professionalism, not even a hint of flinching to say a courteous hi or hello, no way! I did realize this though, one should have an experience of working there at least once in their lives, believe me, it is worth it!
Jokes apart, I think its a new phase of my life, time to concentrate on my health and career. Never know what might happen and when! At this point I would like to say thanks to all those who still pop by to read my crappy posts, it is because of you guys that I still get the motivation to blog! I know I have not justified the title this time around, but it is ongoing, as is life..

Understanding the job

Working with a product company, one of the bigger dilemmas facing the Product team is what to build based on the backlog of product items. Listening to a Harvard lecture podcast online recently, I came across a concept which helped me clear this dilemma. It simply asks a question- what is the job that your product is hired to perform? Ideas for the product you are building can come through various routes. We're going to lose this customer if we don't incorporate this now, this is something the CEO really wants to see in the product, it's been sitting in the backlog forever etc. But a very good way to go about prioritizing what goes into the product is to find the answer to the question- what is the job that your product is hired to perform? Imagine the product to be an employee who is hired for a particular profile. Now there are certain roles and responsibilities or KPI's which will define whether this employee is fit for the post. The same logic will apply to the p...

Death the Leveller

THE glories of our blood and state Are shadows, not substantial things; There is no armour against Fate; Death lays his icy hand on kings: Sceptre and Crown Must tumble down, And in the dust be equal made With the poor crooked scythe and spade. Some men with swords may reap the field, And plant fresh laurels where they kill: But their strong nerves at last must yield; They tame but one another still: Early or late They stoop to fate, And must give up their murmuring breath When they, pale captives, creep to death. The garlands wither on your brow, Then boast no more your mighty deeds! Upon Death's purple altar now See where the victor-victim bleeds. Your heads must come To the cold tomb: Only the actions of the just Smell sweet and blossom in their dust. By James Shirley

Can't let the streak end!

Just a few days until the end of this year and the decade. Realised that there's not been one post this year. Can't let the blog post streak end can we? It's been a busy year. Started off on a good note, ringing in the new year in Thailand with the wife. Got lodged in an unending project which somewhat sums up my year! Nothing to write home about for 2019, some personal projects did start off which were a good break. Got the Octy home, something I've really wanted - which was exciting, a gift which keeps on giving! Hit up Melbourne city again- just once this year, a trip to Nagpur, to Bhopal and to the hills a few times, all necessary to keep things moving on different fronts. Resolution for the next year is to shift gears- down, not up. Who am I kidding. Look forward to an exciting 2020 with more travel, more adventure and more wins!
